Tech certifications can help you land that job or finally get that salary increase you’ve been asking for. Learning a new tech skill by taking a training course that leads to certification is a great way to advance your knowledge in the rapidly evolving world of technology. It also adds validation and strength to your resume, giving you an advantage when a hiring manager looks at your resume.
Whether you’re looking for work in the cybersecurity field or in cloud development, an IT certification shows that you have real-world experience and a deep understanding of the subject matter. And getting certifications can pay off in the long run. The Linux Foundation reports that 72% of hiring managers surveyed said they would be more likely to hire a candidate who had a certification.
Bob Nigh, Senior Director of Talent Acquisition at Subskribe tells us certifications are likely to attract an offer that you might not otherwise have received without it.
“Certifications are beneficial, but not always required. They could make a difference while competing with other candidates. The certification might be in the specialty area, i.e. Certified Network, cloud, or security certificates. More frequently, I see product-focused certifications, such as the many certifications available for the administration of SFDC, Oracle, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google, Cisco, to name a few.”
Nigh says certifications can be especially helpful at the junior level.
“Certification can be a jump start for new graduates or very junior engineers looking to join one of the specialized roles. Most organizations hire at multiple levels of technical talent. Junior technical talent might consider certifications as a great asset to get their foot in the door for roles that require certifications. This will help set them apart from other candidates.”
