Whether you are devoted to Android or you only have eyes for iOS, one thing is certain: It is a good time to be a mobile developer. Overall hiring for developers for both mobile platforms increased by nearly 400 percent between 2012 and 2013, according to CyberCoders data.
As mobile internet use continues to rise, the demand for people to create software for Android and iOS is set to increase right along with it. Between 2012 and 2013, for instance, internet traffic from smartphones and tablets increased by 125 percent, according to the August 2013 BrightEdge Mobile Share Analysis. During the same period, desktop traffic grew by just 12 percent.
So, it is no secret – mobile is a great place for tech pros to be. The question remains, though, whose prospects are more sunny – Android developers or their iOS counterparts?
When it comes to salary, developers for both platforms make an average of about $107,000 a year, CyberCoders data show. However, senior Android developers make about $10,000 more per year than senior iOS developers.
When demand is considered, iOS developers score a point. Hiring for iOS developers between 2012 and 2013 was nearly 20 percent higher than hiring for Android developers during the same period. Though, it is important to note, Android developers still experienced a large boost in demand.
