Apple Announces iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C

Today, Apple unveiled its highly anticipated iPhone 5S today along with a more affordable iPhone 5C!

Two phones in one unveiling is a first for Apple. It just goes to show you how competitive the smartphone market has become.

"Business has become so large that this year we are going to replace the iPhone 5 and we’re going to replace it with not one, but two new designs," Cook said. "This allows us to serve even more customers,” says Apple CEO Tim Cook, according to CNN.

First, a look at some of the coolest new features of the shiny, new iPhone 5S:

1. Search by Voice

You can now make better use of Siri. The new iPhone 5S will allow you to search by voice using Siri, like Twitter, Wikipedia and even photo search.

2. iTunes Radio also Built into iOS

Apple is launching its iTunes Radio on September 18th. This radio feature is going to be fully integrated with the new i0S! It makes sense, given their huge iTunes following. It’ll be nice to have a more streamlined radio system in our new phones.

3. World’s First 64-Bit Processing Inside a Smartphone

Apple’s new A7 Chip inside the iPhone 5S is 64-bit, which is up to par with “desktop-class architecture.”

“Apple says the new chip makes the iPhone 5S five times faster than the iPhone 5 and 56 times than the original iPhone,” according to Mashable.

4. New Champagne Gold Color

In addition to the usual black and white, there’s now an option for gold with white trimming!

5. Brand New Camera

• f/2.2 aperture
• 15% larger sensor
• 1.5 micron pixels
• 8 megapixels
• Burst Mode Shoots 10 frames per second
• Flash composed of 2 LEDs: cool and warm — “true tone flash”

6. New Finger Scanner: “Touch ID”

The Touch ID Sensor. “It’s 170 microns thin, senses 500 ppi, scans your sub-epidermal skin layers,” according to The Verge live blog updates.

It’s located on the home button. And you can just touch your home button to unlock your phone! Easier than dialing your passcode every few minutes or so!

Now, here’s what the iPhone 5C is all about, according to the Verge:

• All plastic and comes in: green, yellow, blue, white or pink
• 4-inch Retina display
• A6 processor
• 8-megapixel rear camera
• Improved video calls with FaceTime HD Camera

"It has an incredible all new design, one that’s more fun, more colorful than any iPhone we’ve made yet," said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president for marketing." In a video, Apple design guru Jonny Ive described the 5C as "beautifully, unapologetically plastic,” according to the same CNN article mentioned above.
