More and more companies are getting into the business of teaching people to code.
We love that! Online tutorials, videos and exercises can help people lay a strong foundation upon which they can build in-demand tech skills and, ultimately, build careers in tech.
Treehouse, an Oregon-based startup, has set its sights on the next generation of workers: “One of the key things we’re trying to do is get people job-ready right out of high school,” founder and CEO Ryan Carson told GigaOM this week.
At the start of the year, Treehouse began a pilot coding program at a handful of schools. At one, according to Treehouse, half the participating students will be ready for tech jobs in the $30K to $50K salary range at the end of the program.
Talk about preparing students for the future!
“Companies like Treehouse, Codeacedemy, Udemy and others make beginning a tech education accessible for those looking to get into a technical career,” CyberCoders founder and CEO Heidi Golledge said.
Treehouse, which has partnered with education company Kaplan, hopes to start its program in more schools this fall.
“Right now there are so many great opportunities in tech – thousands of tech jobs are on CyberCoders.com alone — but not enough amazing tech talent with the skills needed to take advantage of them,” Golledge said. “That is why efforts, such as those by Treehouse, to guide younger people toward tech are so important. Making technology education more easily available to those who want it will continue to grow our incredible tech job market, fuel start-ups and allow the U.S. to compete in the global marketplace!”
