We are currently seeking an experienced, targeted Structural Steel Estimator with a targeted mechanical engineering background, for a regional construction firm with state-of-the-art steel fabrication facilities and building/erection capabilities that serves the commercial and industrial markets.
This is a key role, where you will work directly with our customers and our internal design, engineering and fabrications teams, as a Structural Steel Estimator, where you will be responsible for accurately costing all structural steelwork associated with various construction or manufacturing projects.
As mentioned, we need a strong technical professional, AND a strong communicator as you will be working closely with architects, engineers, and construction managers to identify the type, quantity, and quality of steel required for each project, thus an ability, AND a comfort communicating everything from simple to very complex concepts to all audiences, is needed.
You will also need to keep up to date with the latest developments in steel technology and pricing to provide accurate estimates. In addition to your technical knowledge, as a structural steel estimator, you will also need excellent negotiation and communication skills in order to secure the best possible price for your clients.

- Process and Manufacturing Equipment Structures
- Building Structures
- Steel Support Structures
- Pipe Bridges, Stairs, Plant Towers
- Platforms, Catwalks, Ladders
Process Modules
- Equipment Foundations and Pads
In this role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of mechanical and process-related aspects of construction projects.
Work will include:
- Utilize knowledge of mechanical systems and processes to accurately estimate costs for construction projects
- Utilize Timberline software to prepare cost estimates for mechanical and process-related components
- Perform material take-offs and price analysis to determine cost components
- Conduct risk analysis to identify potential cost variations and provide recommendations for mitigating risks
- Prepare and submit bids for mechanical and process-related aspects of construction projects
- Negotiate vendor agreements to ensure the best possible pricing for materials and services
- Analyze data and provide cost reports to management and project teams
- Provide technical support for stick welding, welding, steel fabrication, and industrial fabrication processes
- Ensure compliance with AISC standards for steel construction
- Interface with customers to understand project requirements and provide cost estimates
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate cost estimates are incorporated into project plans
WHAT DO WE NEED? Qualified candidates, will bring with them:
Ideally an Engineering Degree - Mechanical Engineering preferred, Bachelors is preferred, Those with Associate Degrees will be considered with applicable industry experience.
Targeted Experience, ideally with at least 3 or more years of experience in mechanical and process estimating, as described with experience and ability to perform material take-offs and price analysis, managing risk analysis, and creating/submitting client bids and working with the negotiation process alongside your team.
Experience with estimating software, preferably Timberline, will make for a good experience profile.
- Knowledge of AISC standards for steel construction.
- Excellent communication skills, customer interface skills, including a desire to do this regularly and a comfort with this part of the role. You have to face MORE than a monitor/terminal in this role!
Targeted, and direct experience with structural steel fabrication and industrial facilities construction, ideally including knowledge of Welding fabrication ( stick welding, etc.)
